BudURL University: Job Hunting

by sarah on February 5, 2009

We wanted to show you all the possible uses of BudURL. You don’t have to be a blogger or Twitter elite to get the most of BudURL.

With the economy taking a turn for a worst, hundreds of thousands of people will be searching for jobs this year. And BudURL can be used to maximize your job search outcome. Here’s how…

  • When using job search engines, post your resume as a BudURL link. This gives you the ability to know who’s looking at your resume and when. By knowing who’s in the job marketplace, you can better target and tweak your resume. You can also make the first move by contacting these prospective employers.
  • Post your resume as a BudURL link in e-mails sent to prospective employers. Now you can know if they’re really serious; Did they look at your resume? How long did it take them to do so? Once you see that they’ve clicked through to your resume, you can contact them for a follow-up interview. You’re already fresh on their mind, why not keep it that way?
  • Use BudURL to better define LinkedIn’s “Who’s Looking at You?” feature. LinkedIn provides a feature that allows you to see who has looked at your profile. But it’s usually very broad, telling you only what area that person works in or what field. With BudURL in your LinkedIn profile, you can get a better look at who these people are.
  • My favorite way of using BudURL to get a job is … Post it on Twitter/Your Blog/Facebook/”Fill in Social Network Here”. We’re seeing companies (large and small) using social media to listen to their customers. If you’ve already got their attention, why not see if you can get a job? Or simply send your resume out to your personal network to be spread, retweeted, forwarded, etc. They say the best way to find a job is through someone you know. Now you can see easily keep up with your resume and effectively follow-up on any leads.

We really hope that this helps everyone out. We’re here to help you through these tough times, and want to know any other tips you have that we can pass on! For all of you job searching right now, we can’t wait to see your buds grow.

P.S. One of the best ways to post your resume is to upload it in GoogleDocs (which is free) and publish it as a webpage, then share the link via BudURL!

While I’m not in the job market (I’m a domainer), I found some good ideas here. This will make job hunting easier for anyone. Thanks!
